I found this one on the end of a coin roll with Monticello side up. It's pretty corroded but it's a 1942P. I'll take it.   |

A question for everyone:
How many 2009 nickels do you average per box?
The reason I ask is because I'm 6 boxes in, and have yet to find a single one.

The last box I went through had about 6 2009's in them, for me they were all P-mint issues. A few searchers said they were getting some Denver ones, which I have yet to find - although I have only gone through 6 boxes myself.
While we're on the subject, was the financial crisis the reason why there were so few 2009's minted? Also, does anyone on the east coast have a hard time finding D-mint coins? Doing these last couple of boxes, I must have found 10x as many P-mints as I found D-mints. Maybe it's because of my location.

Here are stats for boxes 5 and 6. I did get one more War Nickel but it was so worn, I couldnt even read the mint mark on the back! Pretty much worn slick with the exception of the date which was 1945 (assumed to be P due to the mintage numbers), but I'll take it! With the exception of the 2009-D, I have all of the nickels from 1956 forward - the latest being the 1955-P. Box #5 had a bunch of keepers which made up for the lack of finds in box #6. I always find lots of the 2009D's, five or more a box but have only managed to find 2 of the 2009P's. out of 45 or so boxes searched

For me at 65 boxes completed:

2009 d (x440)
And I've thrown back a lot of ugly 2009 d's. However I've kept every 2009 p I have found. Oh and I think I didn't get my first 2009 p until box #23 or something like that.

I just got my first box of nickels yesterday and am trying to fill up a Dansco album with Jefferson nickels. I've only gone through a few rolls and am surprised how dirty my hands get(and I work retail and handle money all day too). I live on the west coast and have only found a few p mint marks so far. Now for the noob question. What is special about the 2009 nickels? Was there not to many of them circulated? |
