well, I think it's about normal...you know how it goes...nothing for a long time, then, hits, one after another...feast or famine, pretty much..if it was 1967, you'd hit a lot more, but, most have been picked....what we hope for is some dumb kid wrapping up uncle David's 70 year old coin collection, taking to the bank, turning it in for Redbull money, and, were in line RIGHT behind him......

I hate when I am dumping coins and oth er customers look in awe with bright eyes and say "wow, how long did it take you to save up all of that". I don't know, it just makwa it awkward for me for some reason.

Hello all, I don't believe I've posted here or if ever. Just wanted to mention I searched $70 in cwr nickels last week and found 3 pre-60's (which I keep by habit I halve no idea why - but will some day sort it all out) so, I believe they were another chr dump. I don't go out of my way to search um but it's a nice change of pace.

Owassokie,

My son and I have found:

1950d 0
1950p 17

I'd say your results are unusual.

Yeah murry, know what you mean, some of the workers at my bank say that. But eventually they all realize where the coins come from when they see me walking out with $200 in five cent pieces

Yeah the bank knows I don't just get it from saving, because they see me all the time. They used to ask how long it took to save, until I mentioned I was a coin collector. But it is awkward every time other customers ask.

Soon I will be heading of to camp as I do every summer. I won't be able to search boxes from the 15th of June until mid-August, but I plan on trying one more before I go. I thought I would just post the holes I still have in my album along with some other interesting data.

I still need:
1950 D
1939 D
1939 S
1943 D
1944 S
1945 D

Overview:
I have searched 1,650 rolls of nickels, or 33 boxes. From these I have pulled 1,122 Jefferson's dated before 1960.
This is equal to 0.00003183397% of the pre-60 nickel population, of which is 3,524,536,823 coins.

Average # of pre-60 Jefferson nickels/box: 34

I have found a total of 30 silver wartime nickels, 10 Buffalo nickels, and 1 Liberty nickel.

Average # of war nickels/box: 0.91

Average # of buffalo nickels/box: 0.30

Average # of Liberty nickels/box: 0.03

Date Frequency
1940 and Older: 156 coins. (13.9%) *Does not include buffs or V's.
1941-1945: 130 coins (11.6%)
1946-1950: 215 coins (19.2%)
1951-1955: 276 coins (24.6%)
1956-1959: 345 coins (30.7%)

Most-frequent dates:
1st- 1958 D (86)
2nd- 1959 D (76)
3rd- 1946 (69)
4th- 1940 (66)
5th- 1941 (63)

Least-frequent dates:
1st- 1939 S (1)
2nd- 1944 D (1)
3rd- 1942 S (1)
4th- 1942 P (1)
5th- 1943 S (1)

Most suprising results:
1938 D (2)
1955 (5)
1958 (12)
1956 (34)
1957 (32)

Hi all,

This note replaces the previous note where I called on all data from roll hunting and provides additional details.

I plan on writing a statistics paper on probability/regression about nickels hunting.

I am looking for data from anyone on at least 15 boxes and need everything found before 1960 kept track of by year and mintmark by box.

I will start analyses now (with the help of those who have already replied I have data on about 150 boxes) but if you can do 15 boxes by the beginning of September, I'll include your results too!

If you want a formatted Excel spreadsheet, just let me know and I'll send that to you.

thanks a bunch
