I realize that a few of the years in the '60 have leser mintages than some from the '40s and '50 do, but I just never pulled any in my first few boxes. I don't know why, but if I started now my results would be skewed compared to the rest of my data and therefor incorrect/unreliable. If I were to do it all over again I would keep those lower mintage dates from the '60s. |

.Ancient Coin guy, which 1960's specific dates/mints should I be stashing, if you don't mind sharing..what about condition..most will be pretty shabby of course, where do you draw the line..Fine...EF?

ilikeikes, based solely off of mintage figures, the following dates would coincide with most pre-60 dates:
1960
1961
1968 D
Don't forget ALL 2009 nickels. I do pull those as well.

most of us establish some cut off on mintage: I take everything with a mintage of less than 20 Million or anything before 1970 that is AU.

Thanks..I like the simplicity Rob...I've also been keeping full steps 5c, even when about VF, or, with more contact marks than I enjoy, it just seems smart...as you know, the step area seems to get contact almost immediately( CoinWorld article this month showing 200,000 coin tote, filled by machines @ SF Mint reminded me how brutal the process is!), and are tough to find...I don't have the $$$ to buy and search GEM BU Rolls, so, I just nab what I can from the bank rolls. I think I'll probably just put them in a vinyl sleeve of 20 flips, and, sell to young collector's wanting FS coins for album slots..for my own album, I'm trying to upgrade to MS65 FS as a basic number, a few higher, a few lower....there's a LOT of nickels to make a complete album with proofs now...I've lost count of the final #, including all Satin Finish. |

My last box was interesting..
-the 2nd roll produced a 2012P, the third roll had a 2012D (my first 2012 nickels :))
-I found two 1939 nickels in ONE roll
-the roll right after the 39s gave me a really nice 2000 proof
-The roll after that I found a SPANKIN new 1953D
-Toward the end of the box I found a 1980 proof. This one was in circulation a while.. The frosted part was almost all worn off and it looked like a slightly shiny nickel until I saw the S mint mark.
