I have a question for those of you who roll search multiple denominations of coins. Currently my son and I only do nickels. Are there any other denominations where it is as easy to get good finds as it is in Nickels? In other words, is it easy to find silver dimes or quarters, or Mercury dimes, or wheat pennies older than 1940? Is it worth us starting to roll search other denominations? |

Did my first box today found 1 1945P. I also found the following coins, if you guys could let me know if any of them are worth more than face I would appreciate it.

Hey JNC, try looking at the other CRH threads, and decide for yourself. I've had a lot of luck with half dollars and some nice finds from penny boxes. Pennies cost only $25 for a box, so they are cheap and fun to hunt through. You can find silver in boxes of halves, but they cost $1000 a box. It depends on your budget and if you are searching for profit or for fun.

dmagq: that 1969D cannot be a proof (they were only made in San Fran). Also, I ahve reason to suspect the '66 is not a proof either - but if you post individual pics of each, we can help you out. welcome to the hobby!

The 66 could be an SMS; they are often mistaken for proofs.

JNC, it depends on what you like. I do pennies through quarters and find the lower the denomination the more likely to find older coins and the higher the denomination the more rewarding it is when you find silver...

CopperNickelDaddy - Awesome thread!  I am nearing 500 boxes (25,000 rolls) myself and am curious about how my finds compare to yours. I don't mean to jump in on your post, but I find it very interesting. I've been searching nickels for about 16 months and always find it amazing how easy it is to get boxes of these. I'll post my finds (general numbers) when I get to 500. You definitely have found a decent amount of V Liberties, I maybe have half of what you found, but the amount of Buffaloes and Wars sounds about right. I live near the Canada border and was wondering if you ever find any Canadians? I get about 15 per box and luckily can exchange them at local banks when I get full rolls or a box. I see you have many foreign coins, but no Canadians listed. Anyway - I just wanted to say great job on this thread and I can relate to all of the hard work and heavy lifting  you endured to complete this quest. Happy Hunting!

They may not be proofs, but wow do they stick out compared to the rest of the box.
I will try to post better pictures but haven't figured that part out yet.

It's fun, isn't it?! I give you a lot of credit; I started in early 2007 and I had to take a few breaks; I simply got sick of looking at nickels! I have to admit, and I have posted this before, my biggest regret in all of this was not keeping track of Canadian nickels. I really don't know why I didn't give them respect; looking back it's a giant regret. I can only take a guess; I would say 2 or 3 per box on average. Might be more than that, though; I have kept all of the pre-1982 Canada nickels (due to their metal content) and I have over three rolls of those. I'm in Central KY, so you would obviously find more than me. Looking forward to seeing your numbers; sounds like you will finish before me. Many of those Liberties came in bulk, including I believe 10 in one box at one point.

After moving to the San Francisco area, I keep up with getting rolls of nickels from my job, but no boxes. One recent roll had a dateless S-mint Buffalo so that was pleasing....but some Nic-A-Date revealed it to be a 1921-S! I kid you not! It went straight into the folder.
