So I am seeing people posting that they "upgraded" when they search a new batch of coins, so we are talking about replacing a coin in an album right? If the first coin warranted being in the album what do you do with the old ones? put them in flips?
The last batch of nickels I got has whole rolls of 37 and 40 nickles, and going through the other rolls I think I could put together whole, or pretty close to it, of other years through the 50's. Other than just having a roll of old nickels sitting around is there a good reason to amass your coins by the full rolls?

YV - that is correct when I say upgrade I just mean the quality of coin is nicer so I put it in my Dansco album. Once you get through a few boxes you can start to get some really nice ones!
What do I do with the old one? Put it in my crummy Whitman folder of course!
What do I do with the one that was in my Whitman? I keep the nicer ones (3 or so of each year) in plastic capsules. After every couple of boxes I go back through and throw the crummiest away and constantly am upgrading.
This is just my system and I am pretty new to this but hope that helps.

I've been on a roll again with the V nickels. I've found a 1912, 1908, 1906, and one other in the last couple weeks. It seems like I go on these streaks with Brinks boxes. It's always one or two at a time but I'll get them for a month or so, and then they dry up again. OO |

Greetings all,
The nickel bug struck again, but it went unquenched! A bank bag over the holidays was a skunk for wars, buffs, V's, and proofs. It did turn up a 1948S, 1950P, and 1951 D. Strangely enough - my seventh of each from circulation. Also turned up a 1977 British New Penny - always fun to find funny money! Happy hunting!

Another good box. After opening a few halves nickels seem superior. Small sample size but I have had good luck with nickels. Hope it continues.

Got a few rolls from the bank today. I was skunked on Quarters and only got rolls of brand new pennies, But I did ok on nickles. I finally got a 1958 hole filler. Then I also got a 1939 and a 1952. Both duplicates but still worth keeping in my book. These three came out of only 5 rolls.

Phew, it's been a long time since I searched Nickels. Instead of getting a box, I got $100 CWRs. I got 2x Silver War Nickels in the first 10 rolls or so. I thought I was going to be on a roll. Well, the only other intersting find was a 1895? Barber Nickel! It's in terrible shape so I can't tell the last digit in the year... not even any Buffalos. Oh well, This was my first Barber Nickel, so I was pumped! |
