Frogman - check out this link. It'll give you an idea of what to look for. http://www2.briansvarietycoins.com/shop/view/1728 As noted, an RPM is a form of doubling. Visit Wexler's site (doubleddies.com) and you can read up on types of doubling. Good luck! Maybe you have one.

Ah...yes jbuck:
David - very nice find. I think so far I have just one. I feel rather fortunate. Did you come across any rotated dies? How about data on that?

I decided to start doing coin rolls for fun so on four rolls today I got a 1940S and 1941. Going to start getting rolls every week when I go to the bank.

Quote: Did you come across any rotated dies? How about data on that? Likely that I've come across some ... but I do not look for them. My nickel CRH routine is as follows: note date/mm and a quick visual scan of both sides of the coin without magnification. The visual scan is looking for any obvious errors, such as; Cud, MAD, broad struck, laminations, etc. The CRH method that I employ for nickels (no magnification) does not lend itself to searching for the multiple varieties that exist in the Jefferson series. I say go for it to those CRH fans who enjoy that aspect of the hobby ... it's simple not of interest to me. David

Similar approach here. I grab two nickels at a time, heads or tails in the same direction before the vertical flip. That's where I will note any rotation. Both scans for each coin/each side will let me know if I put it into a secondary search under magnification (to be fair, I use a pair of reading glasses at 2.75 to do the rough sort). The secondary sort goes under 20x magnification. Same approach on cents. To date, I've only landed one of each denomination.

I'm not really looking for varieties. I dump the roll on the table, then pick up one coin at a time, glancing at both sides to see the date/MM and flipping vertically to look for obvious die rotation. I then drop it back in the roll. If I get a keeper, I put it in a bowl on the side and grab another coin from a different bowl to replace it in the roll.

I forgot to mention that I do take a closer look at dates with known major varieties, such as the speared bison.
I'm 38 rolls into box two, but I had to stop to do some homework. It's not too bad so far, I've already filled some holes.

Box two totals
30s: 2 (both P)- 1938 hole filler 40s: 5 (2 D, 3 S)- 1942-D upgrade war: 1- 1945-D hole filler (gold plated) 50s: 12 (3 P, 8 D, 1 S)- 1951-S hole filler, 1959 hole filler Canadian: 4 (oldest: 1976) 2009-D: 1
Out of the first $516 I had searched, I found no 1959s. In roll 25 of this box, I got one. Then I got another in the very next roll. I'm very happy about the 1938. It's a good strike in fairly good condition.
