5 rolls, only a 1941 and a 1958. I still have not seen any 2016 coins yet.

In a few hours I'm going to the bank to transfer some money and deposit two boxes of cents. While I'm there, I'll see if I can get two or three boxes of nickels and maybe some dimes.

Frogman - there are 4 RPMs for the date, so double check your mintmark. Good luck!

Yakima - no 2016 nickels yet, but I did get some cents already.

Numisma - good luck on the hunt!

Brushy - nice to get silver in a box, so for less than half a box, you did good!

I just got back from the bank with two boxes of nickels and one of dimes. I got some driving hours out of the way while I was at it (the state requires us to have 30 hours of in-class driver's ed + 6 hours of drive tests + 50 hours of practice).
I just cracked the first box. No war/buff/V enders, but there is a nice 1940 on the end of one roll.

It may be a good sign! My current box is light on the finds: of any kind. I was really hoping to see some older stuff like last year.

Box 1 complete.
The roll with the 1940 ender (which turned out to be a 40-S) contained, in addition to that coin, a 1939, 2 1940s, a 1941 and 2 Canadians.
Roll 3 produced 2 2009-Ds, but I didn't get any more in the box. Roll 49 produced the best find- my first nickel proof! It's a really nice 1971-S.

Totals:

2x 39 (all P)
16x 40s (11 P, 2 D, 3 S)
15x 50s (2 P, 12 D, 1 S)
A few Canadians
Notable: 47-D hole filler, 53 hole filler
I got 5 1955-Ds, but none were OMMs.
No war, nothing older than 39.

Rackster: What are RPMs? I don't really look for errors but I will check all of my 1954Ds once I know what RPM means.

This weeks $20 in nickel searching ... I've slowed way down ... yielded this lovely 1988-P obverse Cud.

1988-P Jefferson - Obverse CUD

The-Goal:-25,000-Rolls-Of-Nickels-All-Searchers-Welcome!

To give some sense of how relatively difficult is to find a Jefferson Cud while CRH ... consider the following:

I'm now at 340,800 nickels searched ... and have found a total of 4 Cud. That averages 42.6 boxes per Cud found.

Enjoy - David

What are RPMs?

That acronym stands for Re-Punched Mintmark (RPM).

Until 1980 (I believe ... might be wrong on that year) ... the mintmark was placed by hand on each working die by a person yielding a punch to locate and strike the mint mark.

As a result there is a field of numismatics interested in the various locations the mint marks were placed ... and in particular the occasional coin where the mint mark was punched more than once.

So ... an RPM is a coin that shows a normal mint mark on top of another underlying mint mark

Make sense?

David

Either 1989 or 1990.

On an RPM, only the mintmark is doubled. On a doubled die, the whole design is.
