Looks like I got a 1918-D. Not bad! I can't really tell if it's an 8/7- I highly doubt it, but a bit more pickling couldn't hurt too much.

Now I can't tell if it's an 18 or a 19, and I'm starting to doubt the D mintmark. I'll check it in the morning.

While in bed, I accidentally nudged a lamp on my desk and tipped the jar with the coin. Most of the vinegar spilled on a bunch of early wheats I had set aside, mostly S mints and/or woodies. I did my bed to dry them, so hopefully there won't be any long term damage. There's still enough vinegar to cover the coin, so I'll leave it in.

Awesome aj! I snagged a bunch of buffalo this last box. I have a 1916D in the mix...barely readable date when held on an angle with proper light. Your specimen is in better condition. Congrats!

OK, a crazy box and I have two!! I hope the second box has the V nickels in it!! 30s - around 20 including a couple AU 1938 and 1939 specimens (one looks DDR, but not 001) 40s-50s - around 200 including many AU specimens. Several early D and S mint nickels, maybe 8-9 1949S alone and 4-5 1958P, and a 1955. 59-1980 - around 200 AU+/BU P and D specimens Only a couple foreign coins in the mix and another 300 or so 1959-1964 P and D to do some variety hunting (XF-AU). The only variety I've typed at this point is a 2004P-WDDO-001 Stage B Handshake. And I've set aside 6 1960D Bar nickels, 4 of which are AU or better. Oh....and 20 Buffalo, 9 with dates and 11 dateless. I pickled a few and one is a 1917S and one of the dated items is a 1916D. Most are environmentally stained, so it's my guess why they got tossed into the mix. I can't wait to see what box #2 will produce!!

Just did the S Mints - 40S - 5 41S - 5 (2 are Large S) 46S - 2 47S - 3 48S - 5 49S - 17 (I guess my estimate was conservative) 51S - 1 52S - 2 53S - 5 I have several 68, 69, and 70 S Mint specimens too. Several 68S are XF or better I suspect.

Nice finds, especially all the 1949-S examples! I like the looks of the ones you posted, especially the 51-S. Quote: I have several 68, 69, and 70 S Mint specimens too. Several 68S are XF or better I suspect. Do you keep those?

Hi Numisma - I was shocked I found so many 1949S specimens. Could have been a whole roll that got dumped. With regards the 68,69, and 70 S Mints, I've kept maybe as many as 5 each upgrading them as I go along. I do check them though for DDOs/DDRs/RPMs before releasing them. And as I recall, I found a number of 1968S in AU/BU condition, so I'll keep those regardless of my old plan. Just to shiny to toss back to the wild! Buffalo update: Got it backwards - 11 dated and 9 w/o dates Dated 1916D 1918 1924 1925 1927 1928 1929 1934 1936 (3) Pickled no date 1916 (4) 1917 1917S (2) 1925 The 1916 here is a roll find, but not from this CRH event. I just put it here since there's stark contrast between then-and-now. The 1916D date is visible, but mainly on an angle (25/65 spots filled CRH). The 1917S filled a slot in my pickled nickel collection, 21 spots filled between 1913 and 1929. Comparative 1916 from previous CRH event 1916D Obverse from this CRH event 1917S Reverse from this CRH event

Nice! Are you sure that isn't a 16-S, though? It sure looks like it.
