The Goal: 25,000 Rolls Of Nickels (All Searchers Welcome!)

So I just got the best box of nickels I've ever opened.
Had 24 pre-60 Jeffersons. The keepers there were a 1952-S, a BU 1959-D and a 1941-D which is a bit messy but looks like it has full steps.

No War Nickels, but I found 4 buffaloes
3 1936 and 1 dateless! Maybe I'll soak the dateless one in vinegar.
Also got a 1970 with a sticker advertising Steve's Sizzling Steaks. Sticker says it's in NJ. Anyone been there?

I've seriously found more buffaloes this year than War Nickels and Canadian nickels combined =D

Nice finds, CrazyCat! Your one 1936 Buffalo looks like it has a full horn. You don't see high grade Buffalos all that often, even in the common dates. BTW, I've found two AU 1941-D nickels this year. Not sure why they seem to be so findable, but I'm not complaining!

Unless you just happen to run into a CWR collection dump, it's very odd that you're finding more Buffalos than War Nickels. So far, in 5 1/2 months of searching, I'm exactly at a 3:1 ratio (39 War Nickels, 13 Buffalos). I don't track my Canadian Nickels unless they're pre-60s.

I haven't come across any CWR. I pick up my coins at Wells Fargo, so I only get the machine-wrapped String & Sons rolls. Maybe someone's collection got mixed into the bank's order either way.
And I keep all Canadians because I live in Nebraska so I'm far away enough from the border that finding anything from Canada is a rare treat (with the exception of pennies).

And yeah I also find it odd I get more Buffaloes than War Nickels, but I'm not complaining :3
In fact, I like it more that way. The Buffalo nickel is an amazing design (except for date placement of course)

For the curious my finds for this year are: 5 buffaloes (1936 x 4, dateless x 1), 1 war nickel( 1945-P), 1 Canadian (1993)

So I got impatient with the vinegar and put some nic-a-date on my dateless buffalo. Turned out to be a 1920. Was hoping it would fill a hole in my folder but no such luck.

That's interesting, John77. We started up again about the same time this year. My ratio is also about 3:1. But 27 of my silver nickels were together in two customer-wrapped rolls, so if you discount those two unusual rolls from my tally, the ratio changes to 2:1. Happy hunting!

This week's box was very light: no war nickles, buffaloes or foreign, 14 pre-1960's and 3 2009D's.
