Took the nickel plunge yesterday. Here were the notable ones: 1943P War 1944P War 1953 1957D 1958 1959D For those of you interested in the S mints, I found a worn 1968S and a nicer 1970S. There was a 1940, but it had a lot of dings.

Quote: Excellent finds, CalzoneManiac! Thank you, jbuck, for the compliment. This was in $20 of nickels, by the way. I actually got $40, but the other half was all brand new 2016D.

Isn't that a Type-1 1913, John77, given the mound?

Silver is always nice, CalzoneManiac... good job!
aristarchus123, that's a good question... It's so worn though, that it's tough to tell whether there was a line on it or not... there's actually something else about this coin which I'm surprised no one has noticed yet...

If you're talking about the flat spot that's pretty common on old nickels.
I think it is a type 1 specimen. If you have one already you could pickle it and find out. Especially with the damage b

I was going to buy some "Nic-A-Date" yesterday at my coin dealer, but I forgot. I've never "pickled" a nickel (or any other coin). What's the process? I have a couple of jars of "expired" pickles that I can use.
