Dealers do not pay anywhere near melt for war nickles
they are expensive to melt and process because of the low silver content. Also they are mostly so worn large buyers buy them by weight not quantity because of the excessive wear.
Same goes for 40% halves, melting and assaying cost money.
With 90% coins though you can usually get melt.

Last night I found a 1939 Henning Nickel. This is my second Henning, but my first from coin roll hunting. This one came out of box #232. It only took a little over three years to find this one!

Yup! I've already found 22 War Nickels and 6 Buffalos this month. AMAZING! "Pickling' has worked very well for me on the Buffalos. Some take a day or two, others a couple of weeks. EVERY coin I've found has revealed a date. Even a few that I had sitting for years, which included a 1921-S!

I made it through my first box of nickels. The highlight found in somewhere in the first five rolls was a 1978-S Proof with little to no damage. I don't think it made it into circulation from wherever it came.

The next highlight was in one of the last four rolls. This roll had two 2009-P's.

There were no buffalo's or before nickels.
1940's = 14 (7 wartime)
1950's = 20
1960's = 5
1970's = 4
1980's = 4
1990's = 14
2000's = 20
2010's = 100

I'll work on getting a few photos of the better ones including the proof and 2009s. That is the second proof I found in a roll. The first was no where near the condition of this nickel and was a president $1.

7 War Nickels in a box? WOW! Definitely need a pic of that...

As for me, I did 80 rolls today and pulled 24 pre-60s including a nice AU 1940, and a 1943-S. Also found a 1999-S proof and 5 2009-Ds...

Here are the highlight photos including the 7 wartime nickels and two 2009-P.

Still working out lighting for the photos. I see a lot of nice photos in previous posts. Any hints or a post about it?
Thanks!

Nice finds! That second coin in the first photo is pretty worn; it looks like it has been through a war!

Nice pics, coinee!

Two 2009-Ps in one roll...that's amazing! I've never found more than one in a box, or in any single day. To date, I've only found 21 of them in exactly 300,000 coins searched.
