Wow Loco - it's been awhile I think but what a return. That's a fun find...and worth a few bucks! John - I took a quick look. I've found 21 1955 Jeffersons but only 3 aren't mushy. Congrats on the V nickel. A fun find! |

Thanks, Rackster! I'm in absolute SHOCK right now... earlier this afternoon I went to one of my banks... My teller always saves CWR for me when he gets them... anyways, he showed me two plastic tubed rolls of nickels a customer had just brought in when cleaning up a place. Needless to say, I took them right away. He didn't think there was anything special in them, and when you opened the tops, the coins at the top didn't seem out of the ordinary. I did notice though that one roll had several coins which looked kind of dark on the edges... I threw open that roll just a few minutes ago, and let out a yell...   Turned out the roll had 44 coins in it and the 40 War Nickels sat below the 4 coins topping the roll. Interestingly, there were no 1943-Ps or 1945 dated coins in the batch. The breakdown: 1942-P (5) 1942-S (4) 1943-D (1) 1943-S (12) 1944-P (10) 1944-D (2) 1944-S (6) Yes, a full roll of silver coins... my first EVER of any denomination... so I knocked off that milestone!  BTW, the other roll turned out to be all BU 1964 and 1964-D nickels. It's been a crazygood year for me so far, and it just seems to keep getting better and better!  CRH Nickeloholic. 1,600,000 nickels searched in eight years! Have found FOUR complete Jefferson sets!

Wow, John77! What awesome finds between the full roll of War Nickels and the buffalo/V nickel roll. way to go! |

Thanks for all of the positive comments. It has been a while since I've posted on here. I've been steadily going through nickels. Just when I get bored I have another exciting find that keeps me on the hunt!!

Hi everyone, Got $50 worth of nickels, and I've only gotten through 3 rolls. Found a 39P, (2) 41P, and a 46P already. And found this one.   It's seen a rough life, but it could be our first 1939D nickel, which gets us excited for even such a poor condition coin. I took a few other images of just the date (sorry for so many). Open to thoughts/opinions. I know it is hard to capture what the coin looks like in hand, but compared to the 1939 plain, it really appears to be a 39D.    Happy Hunting everyone! |

John - people will start to get mad at you if you continue to snag all the nice coins (war silver, 1909, etc.). We're a friendly bunch here, but we do have our limits!!  Fioti - On a related note, I spied a BU 1945S RPM on our LCS bid board. LDS, but the RPM is clear!! To be honest though, I've not found too many RPM wartime nickels, which seems odd to me. I have just over a roll of P mint silver, and maybe a couple were RPMS. Half a roll of D and a half a roll of S mint silver, and I don't think any were RPMs. Across them all, just a couple DDO / DDRs too. Dad - try comparing your coin against a 1959 and a 1939 of decent quality. The tails on the 3 and 5 are different so it may help you qualify your specimen in hand. Good luck!! Had my first coin hunt of the year this week, and I did 2 boxes of nickels on separate days, when I had some time off from college. Found 2 War Nickels! A 1943-P and a 1943-S. It was a pretty nice return to roll hunting, though I don't think I'll be able to keep doing much unfortunately. |

I was able get some CWRs this morning, and found these four: a dateless Buffalo, 1943-P, 1956-P, and a 1950-P. Too bad there wasn't a mint-mark on the last coin!  |

Long while since I had a CRH event. Not a bad box...but not overly exciting. Here are the tallies: - Single 1939 (RDV 1940) - 15 from the 40's; 3 War Philly specimens and a 48S - 15 from the 50's; nothing of note - 6 from the 70's; nothing of note - 18 from the 80's; 1983 clash (3 or more times) - 15 from the 90's; nothing of note - 27 from the 00/10's; 2000 DDO and a 2016 DDR (unlisted) I'm closing in on completing a number of the post 1960 Date/MM rolls, so going forward it'll get harder to find upgrade specimens (AU+/BU). I also found 4 Foreign specimens and a 1918 Buffalo nickel (date almost worn off). Best find is the 2000 DDO, but the 1983 clash is a close second. Happy hunting folks!! |
