Quote:The last box of nickels was a dud. The box before that produced 7 Buffalo nickels. 4 no dates,1 20 something, 1,1926, 1, 1936 no War Nickels an no 2009. I'll bet in the last 7 boxes I only found 3 2009. Don't hate me, 98Dodger, but I found TWELVE 2009-Ds amongst the 6,120 nickels I searched on Monday... also found a 1936 Buffalo, a semi-key date 42-D, 43-S and 45-S War Nickels, and an Unc. 1951 Philly ... yesterday was more "pedestrian" in terms of the 2009s - 3,600 nickels searched produced only 2 2009-Ds. Also, I couldn't stumble on a War Nickel. However, I did find a 48-S and semi key 49-S and 51-S coins, along with a very impaired 1993-S proof.

wow. an UNC 1951 is real hard to get. Is it a BU? I have 3 books full, but that has been my hardest nickel to get. It's my birthyear and I have a BU ordered to arrive this Friday for an early birthday gift. Is there any better way of completing my number one BU Dansco album.

Yeah, it's a real Unc... it also has a streak of copperish colored toning on the reverse... I'll upload pics shortly. Also, while all pre-1955 ish nickels are hard to find in BU via CRH, my hardest one to find post that era, believe it or not, has been the 1972-P... until a couple of days ago, I had NEVER found an Uncirculated one... it's been even tougher pull for me than the much-lower mintage 1971-P.

John77, funny you should mention 1972 P. I received almost an entire roll of 1972 from CRH. The roll was already marked 1972 on the customer roll. They are all BU/ AU mostly all UNC. I just took them out and spread them out on my desk. I am now looking to see if they have steps. Fingers crossed. This was from a large collection dump late last year.

I think 72 was after they refined the reverse design, the really hard to find nickels with FS are in the 60s.

Perhaps. But upon a cursory look through magnifying glass, there were many with 2 or 3 steps, but only nine (9) with 4 or 5 steps and only 2 that may be full steps. In any case great book/album fillers.

LOVE collection dumps... have managed to run into three of them (all were nickels) this year... indeed those AU/BU coins fit nicely into books/albums. Personally, I'm always trying to upgrade my sets... more recently I've been building sets of XF/AU/BU nickels (1962-date) and dimes (1965-date) for sale on ebay. I've been doing well with the dimes. I haven't started putting the nickel sets up yet, but will soon. Also, I'm not sure what a roll of nice '72-P coins will bring on ebay, but I do know I have no problem selling problem-free circ. rolls of '71-Ps for 5-6x face as they're quite hard to find, especially out here on the West coast.

Do any of you guys have a list of nickels you look for when CRH? Particularly 1960-present. I want to release my jars back into circulation, but I don't want to toss anything decent or interesting.

There aren't really that many varieties on nickels, but there are 1994 and 1997 matte finish nickels (which I don't believe anyone has found) and a 2005-P speared bison. I think there's a DDO on one of the 2004 nickels as well. And of course, the 2009 coins are low mintage and people keep those.

Yes I do find 40 & 50 an I also save 68,69,70S but the 2009 seem to be hardest to fine. Although I haven't found any War Nickels in awhile. Then I get $34 worth of nickels today and find 3 2009 so it's the hunt for me.

Brandmeister, for that period, the 2009-P and 2009-D are definitely at the top of the list... As for the others, the 1971 Philly and 1968-D are tough pulls and are also worth saving as long as they're not damaged... I also save the 1960 through 1963 Ps, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968-S, 1969-D, 1969-S, and 1970-S as there's some demand for all of those dates - more and more people are putting together sets. Quote:

Glad to hear you had some better luck with the 2009s today, 98Dodger!
