So just for fun, using coppernickeldaddy's detailed stats from a posting a couple days ago, here's what coppernickeldaddy has found:

average per 50 rolls:
about 22 pre-1960
0.77 silver
0.21 Buffalo

or...
1 out of every 115 nickels is a pre-1960
1 silver every 70 rolls
1 Buffalo every 234 rolls
1 V-nickel every 683 rolls (i.e. 13+ boxes)

The 22 figure and the silver % seems pretty much in line with my own searching over the last six months or so.

And the lesson from CCF is definitely "volume, volume, volume"!

5 Silver War Nickels in the last three boxes for me.....and 2 Buff's....both date readable ! (and that one V nickel too !)....

I'm finding that I'm starting to run out of Nickel coin tubes a little too often by keeping EVERY single "S" mint (such as '68, '69, & '70), and by keeping ALL Pre-1960 Nickels, regardless of condition.
So, I think I need to just start being MUCH MORE SELECTIVE with which ones are kept and which ones are thrown back out into the wild.
It's just getting a little nickel ridiculous at my coin station the last couple of months ! ...

All from customer rolls. Usually I get Brinks and find only war nicks and that one lonely buffalo.

Went through my very first box this week. Should have wrote the stats but forgot to. I still feel I did pretty good because I found my first Buffalo (dateless which turned out to be a 1920 with nic-a-date) and one silver a 44P
