I decided awhile back to give my Grandkids some coins for Christmas. After seeing jars of "unsearched" coins on ebay I decided to get some mason type jars and fill them with some coins. My initial idea was to put mostly wheatback cents and Franklin nickles, but once I got going I started throwing in all kinds of different coins from Morgan dollars down to large cents. It was fun to put together, and I hope it may spark some interest in coins for them.

Love this. But I'd be quick to educate them about not spending them. Unless of course you've already done that, in which case

If it were me, I might also throw in a couple interesting foreign pieces too, like maybe a silver or nickel Voyageur dollar, or a 10% Peso, or a Churchill crown, or a maybe shilling or sixpence.

What if you sealed the lids with wax, then buried the jars somewhere or hid them in a cave, then went on a treasure hunt with them. That would be such a memorable experience in addition to being an awesome gift.

Actually each one has an uncirculated 1966 Canadian dollar, the only one in a flip as well as a few other Canadian, Mexican and South African coins. I tried to mix things up for them.
