I'm trying to figure out a way to display my coins without having them just laying around everywhere...
How do you do it? Do you have a display case?

Most people don't display their collection. Having small valuable items out in plain site usually isn't a good idea. Some people can't handle the temptation and will try and walk away with them. Not trying to sound paranoid, but my wife doesn't even know the extent of my collection.

I don't display my collection. I would love to, but there's always someone out there that wants to take what isn't theirs. 99% of the people I know don't know I collect at all.

People definitely know I collect, but that's about all they know. I typically have a few random items on my desk that are new purchases, but the vast majority is stored away. I also have a nice alarm system, motion lights, and security cameras around my house/property. Not to mention the things that go BOOM that are strategically placed around the house. I'm not paranoid, I'm prepared. I've worked very hard to have the things I have and I plan on keeping them If you advertise what you have jealous people will decide they need it more than you and try and take it.

a few people know I collect but they are mainly my family, people I sell to and a couple others. not even my best friend knows I do, he just thinks I do quick flips on numismatic items and PMs.
Feel free to call me Will.

Wow, that's interesting, I wouldn't have thought that, but it makes sense if you have a big collection...
I won't get a safe anytime soon (it would be much more than my collection at the moment), but does anyone have any ideas for a small, <$500 collection? Maybe keeping them in a book or something? For my certified coins, I'd like to display them somehow...I don't have many people over, so I'll take the risk...if someone stole them, I'd probably know who it was...

I am thinking of making a custom display case for certain coins I have in my collection. It will probably cost more to make than the coins I want to display though.

Short answer is: I don't. For all the reasons mentioned above. Few people know I collect coins.

This what I use for my silver dollars. It is hid away - not out in public view.

For my other denominations I use albums but don't keep them out on the coffee table!

I don't display them.

They are all fully identified, in annotated mylar / cardboard 2x2's, in non PVC album pages.
About 1,500 coins from about 400 BC to about 1950, are arranged in date order, irrespective of country, culture or denomination, in a working, living reference collection.

Computer in the middle, numismatic library to the left, stacked coin albums to the right. The albums are stashed in boxes under a bed when not in use.

The collection is a World numismatic time line statement from ancient to modern times.

Unfortunately, about 50 coins are too valuable to take a place in the main body of my working collection, and are stored in a small safe. They are also arranged ia a mini time line date order statement.

I also don't display them for several reasons. There's of course the possibility that something goes missing. There's also fact that I don't like to brag. Also my girlfriend and I live in a small apartment and there's no room for any display cases or whatever. And lastly: we have a cat. Cats and coins are like a disaster waiting to happen :)

Yeah that seems like a good idea...
Space is also kind of an issue for me, so I may go with an album or something. Would you mind if I saw some pictures of the albums people use?
