Not I. There's too many of them for my specialty (Morgans) and the differences (VAMs) are too minute IMNSHO with some notable exceptions (e.g., '78 7-tail feathers vs 8-tail feathers). PCGS recognizes and will grade 277 Morgan varieties, but with all the die variations and combinations, there's over 3000 varieties http://www.pcgs.com/VarietyFAQ.htm. Much as I would love to own every Morgan which has ever been minted, these numbers are just a little too much. Add cracked and other mechanical die breakdowns, and it seems almost every Morgan is its own variety. There's some non-Morgan varieties I wouldn't mind getting my hands on, e.g, 1909-S VDB and doubled-die 1955, but these would be the exception rather than the rule.

I cannot say that I am all that interested in either unless it is very noticable. While I appreciate the fact that some love finging RPM's, Doubling, and other small things, I prefer those that are readily identifable. If you can see it with the naked eye, I can appreciate it.

I like Lincoln Cent BIEs and Cuds. Also, partial brockages look pretty cool but I never seem to get around to buying any. "The Letters BIE is to be understood as standing for the 'BEST IN ERRORS' and not the diebreak between the letters 'B' and 'E' as formerly supposed. John E. Markley Former BIE GUILD member.

It has been said and to a degree acknowledged that "errors & varieties are the thinking arm of numismatics"..... I do collect them but more along the lines of Mules, Brockages,Broadstrikes,Wrong Planchetts etc, basically errors or varieties that you can easily see the differences...those that need a high powered lens to make out the error, those are the ones I avoid.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the pursuit of perfection. Been there, done that. It brought me limited joy, there was always a hit, or a bag mark, or the color wasn't "A". I never found a perfect Morgan, there was always a better one..... Now I revel in finding the ones that aren't perfect, I love the thrill of the hunt!! I want the R-6 coin in VF that I can cherry off of ebay or a dealer. That is a kick!! VAMs changed the way I look at my Morgans, it put the fun back into collecting for me. That's why collecting coins is such a wonderful hobby. There is room here for all of us and our different passions. Whether it is collecting MS70 Moderns or dateless buffalos, it makes no difference, as long as it makes us happy

I think I just found another reason for not collecting errors. Too many zeros after the dollar signs. I also wonder how many of these are intentional errors, e.g., somebody at the mint stuck a dime planchet into the half dies. Fred

I like errors, but so far my experience is limited to the rather mundane things I've found in circulation. Filled dies, clipped planchets, that sort of stuff. I do have one really cool proof Kennedy half that has a strike-through in the date. Nothing I can sell on ebay for a large number with lots of zeroes, unfortunately. Rachel [:p]

Hi Everyone I appreciate all who responded to my question !! Its interesting to read the responses, and consider that most who are interested or for that matter not all that interested, know about the major errors and varieties which have been discovered through the years . Becky !!! I am very impressed with this thought !! ( Now I revel in finding the ones that aren't perfect, I love the thrill of the hunt!! I want the R-6 coin in VF that I can cherry off of ebay or a dealer. That is a kick!! VAMs changed the way I look at my Morgans, it put the fun back into collecting for me.) Now I'm not a Morgan collector!! But if I was this would also be the way I collect them!! I apply this to the Lincolns and the Merc's that I do collect,, and I agree there is nothing more fun that to find a coin that has passed thru the hands of a seller or dealer, and discovering something that has been missed!! I have spent alot of time looking for these anomolous coins and it is very exciting for me when I find them,I hope that the interest in collecting and searching for these type of coins never wains in the hobby !! Thanks again !! Rick

I couldn't agree more. We get to decide what perfection means to us. So there really are no limits in coin collecting. "The tree tops move the enemy is coming..." Sun Tzu Wilma is that you? Wilma? I know your out there somewhere? Wilma? Wilma? "Once I thought I saw you in a crowded hazy bar, Dancing on the light from star to star..." Like a Hurricane Neil Young
