Good evening everyone I have been on a hunting mission to find error coins in rolls I have found a couple and I'm looking for some input on this one.. The train on the right the first wheel seems to be missing the center of it. Error?

Hi,

Something went wrong there -- not sure what. Perhaps it's merely a Grease Filled Die ...?

I stared at it, went away, came back, went away, came back and finally posted. It's a curious little thing.

Good eye.

Yeah, I think so.

Missing hubcap variety?

Did you find more than just this one?

I'm still thinking about this and reading through this site. http://www.error-ref.com/

Can you get a pic that's lighter/brighter? There may be clues to what happened that just aren't showing up in the pics posted.

Much better picture but -- (sigh) I still don't know.

The easiest explanation would be 'die variety' but that seems unlikely with all the modern equipment used to make stuff.

Maybe some grit filled that little spot on the die. It's a tiny spot and it wouldn't take a lot.

It's a puzzler.

if you mean the grill thingy(i have no idea what it is called....think it has something to do with caddle but no idea) than I would think it is merely die wear or a weaker strike. much like FS Jefferson nickels.
Feel free to call me Will.

No, not the cow catcher, the front wheel on the train that is heading west is missing its wheel cover/hubcap.

Just spoke to my train guy -- it's bearing box. It's either a journal box or an axle box.
