Hi All, Came across this cent this morning, looks completely different than my other coins, seems a bit lighter in weight too. I don't have a gram scale to weigh it. Were coins minted on other materials back then? It is not attracted to my magnet. It also appears to be struck a bit off center Thank You for your help

Made of copper, but cleaned. Is it orange-ish in color?

Yeah I think it is, here a are couple more images from my camera just for color I can never get a sharp image from it. What is bummer, but I know what a cleaned coin looks like now. Still printed off center? Yes, mild MAD? Thank You

Agree with T-Bop. What looks like a thinner planchet is simply because it was in circulation longer and lost a bit more metal, I'd say.

I get a few of those when I get bags of copper pennies. Not sure why someone would polish them but I find a few in every bag.

Remarkable what people do to coins, especially all-but-worthless ones. Probably just someone who wanted all of their collection to look alike.

Some people who do not realize cleaning them actually hurts them. Older people are not exclusively doing it.

Yes, you are right about that. My kid likes everything shiny and it would have have polished until all the black was gone.
Yes, I was disappointed. I love these old wheat coins and their natural coloring is what gives them such great character and appeal.
Thanks for all your posts, they kept me laughing.
Happy Holidays
