Quote: I figured Dave... I was looking at that coin that u mentioned, but I didn't make an offer... Maybe I should've, but whatever... Any ways, thanks for your input! Like I said I wasn't trying to put you or the coin down in any way, shape, or form. I can remember being your age and heck even now sometimes I see something that excites me and I jump the gun and buy it. Usually I find the same thing in better shape cheaper soon after and kick myself for not waiting. I've definitely gotten better at waiting for deals. Also dealing with salesman on an almost daily basis has helped me become a better negotiator. Now I'll make an offer and they can either take it or leave it. No matter how rare you may think something is there will always be another one for sale. That is unless you are looking at the ultra rare items the cost millions of dollars. Once you get to the point of spending that on a single item though you no longer care about saving a couple of bucks.

Quote: I do mention that despite the NGC certified population of 10 examples ... this is not a 'rare' coin and many, many of the same date have been judged in higher grade I meant that all three services together only have 10 certified in this grade, and NGC only has 3 (all in old holders). I just thought it was cool to be one of the owners of such a thing. I didnt mean to say that it was "rare" because of that. Quote: I'm sorry but all that rub in the center of reverse doesn't sit right with me. If the seller offers returns, you might want to take that into consideration. Thanks for pointing that out, as I didnt look as closely at the reverse as I should have... Hrm, the seller does offer returns, and if it bothers me too much I will return it (but I dont think it will!). Quote: No matter how rare you may think something is there will always be another one for sale. Alright, thanks for your advice!

I didn't say anything as I didn't want to break your excitement. Don't get me wrong. I've always wanted to get a classic US proof, and I tried several times to no avail. I could never get a nice enough one within my budget of less than $200, so I bought a half eagle instead.

Very nice I have always wanted a classic proof especially after going to a coin show and seeing cases and cases of beautiful classic proof coins but can never bring myself to spend the kind of money they go for. Same thing for pattern coins. Maybe someday.

Nice coin dude. Coins are personal, if it makes you happy it's all good. Also you won't know until you have it in hand

Quote: all that rub in the center of reverse doesn't sit right with me That is why it only grades out at PF-61, you have to learn to live with things like that if you want a reasonably affordable but non-impaired classic proof coin.

Just got the coin today... It is by FAR my favorite coin EVER. Awesome obverse, it's really pretty in hand. The reverse is meh. It's a truly awesome coin, and the pics suck in comparison to what this coin looks like in hand. Thanks all who voiced there opinions! This is definitely a coin I will hold onto and enjoy for years and years to come!

OK, great. I'm happy you find it a beauty in hand. That's all that really counts.

Nice, nothing wrong with classic proof coins, there are quite a few affordable ones out there if you look hard and long enough, IHC, 3 cent nickels, Liberty nickels all have quite affordable Proofs in lower grades available. You can always up grade down the line.
