My question, do collectors cut uncut sheets to make individual notes? If a series 1981-A note has a serial number C99998773 B did it come from an uncut sheet? I'm new at collecting paper money. Thanks for your help.

Yes and Yes, Your note is from an uncut sheet and obviously people do cut them up. What is the small number on the BACK lower right in the white field near the Big "E" in ONE? Picture of the front and back is always appreciated. Happy hunting.

If it is decided to cut a sheet, the most common approach is to leave gutters, strips and corners of at least two notes.

Sometimes, there is extra printing outside of the normal note area of asingle note, in the gutter or strip area.

The main reason for cutting a sheet is that the sum of the parts make up a greater value than for a whole uncut sheet.

I suspect that it is mainly dealers who cut up whole sheets.
A good guilotine and care is needed when cutting.

I noticed the serial number in a district set someone was selling on-line and wounded if it has value as a stand alone note. Thanks sel 691 and notehunter494

This practice also happened at times with obsolete notes, particularly remainders. Dealers found they could sell individual notes for twice the price of a full sheet. But eventually the pendulum swings back. Certain uncut sheets, once common, have now become quite scarce and command a premium over the cut remainder notes.

, 100% with the uncut sheets; one never knows.

I have several uncut sheets ( 4 note ) that the BEP sells; in a couple cases the individual notes are worth more than the sheet, but I'm not in the sheet cutting mode--yet!!LOL
