Someone gave me this American Eagle lapel pin. It's in a US mint box. It's dated 1995. I've searched online for them but haven't found anything. Was this sold by the mint? The packaging inside the box looks original but I didn't know the mint sold any type of jewelry with their coins. Thanks for the help!

Maybe it was put in the box after the fact. I don't think the mint sells things fashion accessories.

I don't recall if they sold lapel pins back in the 90's but like Mayflower, I doubt it. This is probably after market. I know they would do spoons and such with coins embedded, but I think those were mostly with State Quarters.

Can you get a better pic of the obverse and maybe a photo of the back too?

The reverse would tell the story but it could be a 1/10 oz gold eagle made into a lapel pin in an after market box (I do not see US Mint anywhere on the box.

...and as was mentioned the Mint didn't sell jewelry items

..or it could be a replica

Ignoring the bezel, the coin still looks a bit off. If it's a genuine coin, the lapel pin is certainly aftermarket.

Thanks guys. I guess the box threw me off because it looked similar to others I've got from the mint. The coin is set in a 14k round bezel so you can't see the back of the coin. If that's 14k I would assume the coin is real but it doesn't matter. It was given to me by my Uncle so the value isn't the important part. Thanks for the info.

I bought an ASE off of a coworker who had pried it out of a money clip.

This is the box it came in.
