Hmmm. The anomaly is very similar to DOO-001 but it looks really "shelf-like". I want to rule out Machine Doubling. Can you post a close up picture of the "WE" and the other half the "Trust"? Maybe the eyelid too?

By cleaning, I meant mineral oil soak (no rubbing, no brushing), then warm water rinse, followed by an acetone bath. Points of the W are encased in crud, but may loosen. Can make out doubling in the E of W E. Was hoping to find the classic signs of doubled die but the points of letters are soft from wear. Will post new pics once the bathing is done...no rubbing, no brushing!

What jumps out to me is this photo. How can it be a doubled die, if the doubling is in opposite directions?

Good question. Hoping others will weigh in. Overall, the doubling--assuming it's machine doubling--appears to be rotated clockwise...strike then shift.

Here is that listing. http://www.coppercoins.com/lincoln/...ie_state=edsNote the "E" on WE. If your coin were that die number, then the lower part of the "E" would have that exact notch in it. What I'm seeing so far on your coin is, uneven doubling like we would see you would see on a machine damaged coin. The images with single digits are not a help. When taking images of devices you should have 3-5 devices in the same image. Just a single device gives us not reference to what we are looking at. So I'm seeing so far is just Machine damage on your coin.

I agree with the Machine Doubling conclusion. Yes, no notches. My photo selection is driven by my camera selection. To pick up the subtle doubling, I needed to use an old photographic studio 100X microscope and my smartphone. The initial photos came from a mix of standard camera shots--full coin--and 40x microscope. I will strive to improve when I have the opportunity.
