Gold is very soft and in a large coin such as this, there is much more opportunity for an MS coin to accumulate nicks and scratches whilst not receiving any wear. St Gaudens coins never really circulated, and so it is very common to find them in AU55 or better. Report this Post to the Staff

BH1964 Bedrock of the Community United States 10982 Posts	Posted 01/01/2016 5:13 pm My guess is MS64 is it's as lustrous as the images suggest. MS63 would be worst case.
