I found this penny while going through coins. I am trying to figure out what is on the front of the coin and how it happened.

the coin has a counter stamp of the state of Michigan that was done by a third party after it left the mint.

They've made the shape of the upper peninsula wrong, leaving out the Keweenaw where most of the copper was mined to make a century-worth cents!!

You are probably also wondering about the potential value. Unfortunately, because this design was 'stamped' on the coin after it left the mint, it has almost no value, other than the cent itself.

However, if you plan on keeping neat coins you find, there is absolutely no reason not to keep this as one of your earliest discoveries.
