I think there's a good chance at a problem-free grade. The eye appeal might lower the assigned grade a bit though.

$38 is unreal for price on that coin. Send it to NCS, its well worth the gamble to get that coin professionally conserved. I cannot see that coin "as-is" in a problem free holder from NGC or PCGS and I am not trying to be a curmudgeon, I just don't see how it could with all that carbon damage.

Unless you are going to flip it I don't see why any further alterations would be needed. If it were mine I'd just enjoy it at this point in its improved state.

After thinking it over and talking to NGC yesterday I've decided that this coin is worth the money to send in and have it conserved by NCS. I'll probably mail it in next week.

I'll let folks know how things turn out.

My fingers will be crossed!

My 1838 Half Dime is being shipped to NCS tomorrow.

I'm hoping they will be able to conserve it, get rid of those spots and it will end up in a problem-free holder.

It looks like the coin has been received by NCS. I would guess that this means they are going to work on conserving it?

My shipment arrived at NGC ten days ago.

The other coins I submitted are all in the "Quality Control" stage of grading.

It got an AU Details grade from NGC. I don't know if they tried to clean it or not.

I just received my invoice and it doesn't look like NCS attempted to work on the coin, they just slabbed it as an "AU Details" coin.
