What Variety of RPMM is this? And is it significant?

Sorry the coin is a bit dirty.

Thank you! I had the pleasure of finding this and many others in an unsearched lot.

If I was you I would take it out of that 2x2 and give it a VERY gentle cleaning with a VERY soft toothbrush and put it in a new 2x2. Nice find. (P.S. Not sure about it being 001 but it does look like an RPM. I think I see three MM's.)

I was thinking the same thing but I might go with just an acetone bath to be safe. I'm sure a toothbrush would be ok if I was careful, but I'm overly cautious.

I just gave this coin an acetone bath and it seemed to come out ok.

Also, if you're thinking it has 3 MM's I might have to recheck it under the microscope after a slight cleaning.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on that.

Hit my older RPM's with a brush all the time. Doesn't seem to hurt them. I wouldn't use one on a coin that was in good shape or uncirculated.

It is 1956D-1MM-001. Just a collection of gunk on the mint mark. I always use mineral oil. It helps to loosen the grime without altering the color of a coin. If it is thick on the devices, let the coin soak for a longer time. Then use the tooth brush to push towards the devices.
(keep in mind that grime may contain grit like sand. This will scratch the field if you are not careful. Best to experiment on a normal coin until you get the technique down)

It is indeed a 31-S I'll give the coin a once over today with acetone and go from there. I'm very tempted at this point to pick up some Verdi-Care, I've gotten a lot of suggestions for that!

I touched it up a bit with some acetone. This is the clearest picture I could get of it.

Thanks again everyone to the feedback! I'd like to wrap this up with a link to the NGC on this type of error.
