I'm right with you, jbuck. No slabbed goodies, just a (full) 8176.
Though this really makes me want to consider a set of slabbed Ikes... oh, what a slippery slope...

Quote: Though this really makes me want to consider a set of slabbed Ikes... oh, what a slippery slope... 29 coins and if you are not to picky with top pop grades, you could probably finish the set for $500-$600. There are plenty of MS62-MS64 buy it now for $10-$15 per coin on ebay. It would probably be cheaper than buying them all raw and paying for the dansco.

Well... I already have a Dansco full of Ikes. And by "slippery slope" I was talking about slabbed coins in general. I don't collect them at this point and am "concerned" that this would lead into a huge money sink. "Well, I have slabbed Ikes, why not Franklins? Or Quarters? or ASEs?" etc. etc. etc. oy!

You can have both. I try to have two sets of everything, One graded one raw. I can understand the money sink mindset, but in actuality buying already graded coins is fairly reasonable. That is if you are not the top pop collector. Many dealers bulk submit and the ones that don't make the "magic" grade get sold for less than the cost of grading.

Now that's what I call an Ike acquisition. Wow. That 71-S CAC Ike has me curious because I don't believe I've ever seen this issue with a CAC sticker before. And that 74-S MS68 speaks for itself. I would like to hear cladking's opinion on this, but my impression is that the 74-S typically has the best strike and luster of all the silver business strike issues. Do you concur, cladking? I'm not trying to hijack your thread, davec13, but I try to take advantage of any opportunity to persuade my fellow collectors to start a graded set of Ikes.

It is the clad Ikes that stop me from going for the certified set honestly. I have some certified Ikes, but in no rush to complete at all. Can't fathom paying for a clad coin ever. On an aside, I really wish they would have put a 90% Ike dollar in the Ike set instead of the medal. I like the medal too, but man reissuing a big Ike dollar would have done so much more for the series.

The '74-S may be more consistently nice but at the level of MS-68 I'm not sure they're all that much more available than the '73-S.
Tough call.

Quote: Does this help in any way? . . . . Actually it doesn't I tried zooming in to get a better look at the grades, but the glare makes some unreadable. What are the majority of the grades 64 and 65 with the proofs all 69DCAM? EDIT: is this your set? http://www.PCGS.com/setregistry/pub...spx?s=119137Quote: I'm not trying to hijack your thread, davec13, but I try to take advantage of any opportunity to persuade my fellow collectors to start a graded set of Ikes. Hijack away after I complete my set, please. I don't want any more competition. I had to bid against 10 other people to win this one. http://coins.ha.com/itm/proof-eisen...nks-12202013 If more people are collecting this set I would have probably spent a lot more.

I just posted that pic to show what a complete graded set looks like. It's an old picture. Many of the coins have since been upgraded. You can view my set in the PCGS registry. I'm #14 in the "complete variety" Ike specialty sets. What made you decide to pull the trigger on a PR70? Those are way too pricey for me. My PR69 proofs look flawless enough for me. Besides, I have lots of expensive Morgans left to buy to complete that set. Congrats on your winning bid. EDIT: http://www.PCGS.com/setregistry/pub...spx?s=119137

Quote: What made you decide to pull the trigger on a PR70? Yesterday was my Birthday, so I decided to get myself a present. I was also happy with the PR69DCAM, but that one was there and it was under what they normally sell for. If I decide to jump into the registry set game it will definitely give me a little boost to that set too. Quote: By the way, that link you provided just goes to a blank page. Is that a link to the registry? The link was supposed to go the registry set not sure why it isn't working. I'm definitely digging that 71S you have. If the mint could have figured out how to get the new "golden" dollars that color I would be all over them. The 76D type 2 is also a really nice looking coin. If you ever decide they don't belong in your collection feel free to PM me. I'll give them a good home.

Thanks davec13. I tried a link to my set too, but it also gives a blank page. Hmmmmm.

Maybe a MOD can fix the link so people can see the set you have built. It's definitely worth the time to take a look at it. The link in your signature also goes to a blank page for the ike set, but the kangaroo set works.

Belated happy birthday davec13.
Curious, any significance to the 1972 PR70?
Personally I love the 1971's being my birth year and that always makes me think others collect Ikes that way too.
I have this theory that as the early 70's birth children get into the heart of coin collecting years (which I view as mid 50's+ from my casual observation), that the interest in Ikes will explode.
I know I can't get enough of the 1971 when it is at a good price. Once I show that interest at the LCS or a coin show they usually try to dump all their Ikes on me and I am often a willing customer. Still for the slabbed Ikes I only have one for my birth year (1971 pr69) and my brothers (1974 ms67). Jealous of the sets though. Someday I am sure it will happen whether by design or not.
Interesting that Darth's Ikes aren't showing up in the link. I have clicked that before and it did. Looks like something changed somewhere along the line.
