HELLO from oshawa ontario CANADA. I am in my 30s and have been collecting from before I was born by my grandfather. recently my grandmother found all my grandfathers coins and also his fathers coin collection. that would be my great grandfather. now I have a very rare 4 generation collection passed down throw time. now I want to get all of them graded, and put in proper protective seals so I can be able to pass it down farther into time, one hopes! I am a newbie but I do know a far bit, I have put some time in on reading and learning. I am VERY open minded, and that being said and help, hints, or direction on how to go about doing this.. its got me all perplexed.

Rather than getting all the coins graded, which would be expensive, I highly suggest posting them on CCF so the members can determine if it's worth sending in.

to CCF and SWEET. While it's unlikely that there will be any real rarities in there, just looking at what was collected from circulation 50 years ago will be novel and fun. Probably the easiest way to do this is to get some flips and coin tubes or even paper wrappers. Sort the coins first by decade and/or type... Indian heads before 1900, 1900-1909, Lincoln cents 1909-1919, etc. Then you can sort them further and even check for varieties (using the Cherry Pickers Guide). it's all in how much work/fun you want :-)

Welcome.
May we ask you what type of coins you have? I assume this is a mainly or exclusively Canadian coinage collection?

Its always great to add another Canadian t o CCF . Tell us more about your collection and which denominations you prefer. There are many long time experts in the Canadian forums. We even have a grading forum, where you may post pics, and members will attempt to assign a grade. ICCS is the top grader for Canadian coins. There's lots of knowledgeable collectors here, who are very friendly! I think your collection has some cool history to it.
