I printed off a label for a flat envelope through ebay's shipping this morning. Up to now it was $2.04 and it showed your discount, but today I was charged $2.60 with no discount.

Did they change things or was this a technical glitch?

$2.60 is more than the post office charges at the window.

As @Pacificoin said, the USPS upped their rates recently.
ebay has NO say-so with respect to that.

First class postage for a one ounce letter went up by $.03. (3 cents) Not sure why that translated into a $.56 (56 cent) increase on small packages (3 ounces or less) that were formerly $2.04. It smacks of an eBay\Paypal money grab, to me.

I mailed a package at the post office yesterday and it was $2.54.

Now I have to decide what to do with my shipping rates. I've been charging $2.75 which did cover ebay shipping, ebay fees on buying postage from them and the cost of the mailer and supplies. Now I either raise it or keep it the same and take a loss on shipping.

I noticed the same thing today ... $2.60 shipping for a 3 ounce 1st class package. I'm only charging $1.99 for shipping ... so I'm absolutely losing money on that change.

First - it's the PO's increase and has nothing to do with Pay Pal or ebay - they are just passing on the increase.

Second, it's completely nuts to charge postage on coins or tokens. Just start your bid at a place you are happy with including the cost of postage.

You avoid EVER having a bad postage "star". You avoid EVER having a customer complain because you charged them 9 cents more than it costs.

Plus, as you should know by your own bidding, if I (or most anyone) is only going to pay $10 for an item maximum, and you are charging $2 for postage - the most I'll bid is $8.

So you don't gain a PENNY by charging for postage. Just include it in whatever you figure your bottom price is for the opening bid or BIN and everyone will be happy.

There's no ebay discount anymore, that's why!

Used to be $2.54, with a .50 (%10) discount, bringing it to the old rate of, yes, $2.04. ebay would show the discount when I paid for the postage. Now it's a flat $2.60, with no discount.

No discount now on postage when paying through eBayalways had it in the past. Am sure it has something to do with the USPS increase, but a 56 cent increase for a 3 oz package seems a bit much.

Just notice it today when I created two labels.

Also just did a search and apparently the USPS rate for First Class is still .49. So where is the increase? I need to stop by the PO tomorrow, and will ask them.

Pretty simple go online and print the USPS rate sheet , has nothing to do with PayPal ebay or stamp.com. The new prices came into effect these past few days. The 2.04 rate is NOW 2.60 . But we only do a hundred or so small packs a week so what do we know.
Compared to every other postal service in the world it is a screaming bargain. $ 2.60 for a tracked package is unheard of in any other postal system on the planet.

I'm not doubting the USPS rates. What I'm talking about is the fact that ebay is no longer offering a 10% discount on the postage that they were offering, at least from where I was printing my postage from my computer. Can't speak for other areas. The rate the USPS is charging is $2.60...no problemo!! Guess those of us who had the discount, will have to live with no more discount. Like you say, still a good deal. We can choose to pass it along or eat it, our choice.

Are sellers still being charged fees to purchase postage from ebay?

If so then buying postage from ebay is more expensive than going to the post office, although there is the convenience of buying postage at home and printing off labels.

I'm a "Top Rated Plus" seller and I need to ship 90% of my items using ebay's postage system to qualify for the benefits that come with that.

Has anyone called ebay to ask about this?

As of now I plan to keep my shipping costs the same and just take a loss on packages I ship.
