111834273392Not a series that I'm familiar with but I thought that this coin looked a bit off when comparing it to other 1849 Large Cents on ebay. Am I crazy or is this coin bad? Thanks, Joe2007

I,m not sure what a " proufussionaly " cleaned "breaded hair" large cent looks like for sure, but, I'd stay away from that one!

The date area has certainly been worked over. May have been on the die, or the coin? Need to consult a specialist varieties catalog for better information to answer the question.
Pity the eBayer's spell checker doesn't work!
Maybe he went to the school where they 'learned ya to talk propper'.

The coin itself looks good as far as authenticity is concerned, but it's obviously been cleaned. When the coin has lost that much detail to circulation there is no way you'd still see the copper luster that this example displays. An AU cent might retain this much luster, but it would all show in the 'hidden areas' of the recesses of the design - not splotched all over the place like this coin displays.
Plus, the price is just plain imaginative. Keep looking would be my advise.

For the record I'm not considering this coin, I just thought that it looked a bit strange and was wondering if it was authentic. The dentils (fading into the rim) and the date looked a bit different that some other 1849 LCs I was looking at. Is this normal?

Quote: profussionaly ? I think they meant profusely cleaned. Worth maybe $15 or so in that condition

Genuine, cleaned. That's an un-usual amount of luster for a coin in that condision.

For that price I'd want authentication.

Interesting post. The qualifications for selling on ebay are apparently minimal. The guy (or gal) has some oddly over priced stuff for sale. A flying eagle with heavy damage and a 1886 V nickel that is clearly not mint and has a gash in it. The coin is question is not AU and it is more like vf/xf details. I'd say cleaned and then partially retroned. Maybe worth a 1/10 of what it is listed for. Seems authentic, but not I'm not really sure. The wear looks genuine, but I guess even that can be faked?

111594071672"condishion" "togather" "in exspensive" He tries to sound convincing in his other auctions calling coins "cheap" when they are clearly overpriced ( 121609629659) I'm actually slightly saddened by this guy's lack of grammar and lack of spelling. It makes me wonder if he has a disability, and if he does, it isn't something to joke about.
