Well the upside on this lot is that silver only has to go up to about $150 per ounce before you above water on melt value.

At least they say the're reproductions. Doesn't know the difference between Trajan and Hadrian though.

The eventual buyer will most likely offer them for sale on another ebay or on one of the many Facebook pages I have seen where charlatans offer "genuine" Julius Caesar denarii for $75 ! (Plus shipping of course) They often claim that they come from some unnamed 'detectorist' and that they used to "know" the guys sister to boot ! With credentials like that who wouldn't believe !

Also, why isn't there an Ancient, Greek, Roman, and Medieval Coins Counterfeit reporting page?

I have had more than one 'Alice in Wonderland' experience with ebay before. I won't hold my breath on this one. If they disappear I will be pleasantly surprised ! But keenly aware that they will turn up elsewhere (Facebook etc) and I would wager ........ Eventually right here on CCF

I didn't get to see the offer in the original post. Already down. What was in it?
Seller claims to be in Bulgeria, and appears to have had 3 lots that sold yesterday. All sold as reproductions, but not noted on the coins as such.
I was glad to get the pics for his lot of Istros staters, since I had seen another seller in Bulgeria offering small groups of that coin type and size, and reported my suspicion that they were fakes in the thread on fakes here. I intentionally purchased two of the earlier group as fakes so I could study them. They are quite convincing, even in hand. Now I want to compare the images to these.

You should be able to get a picture from this tool.

Job well done !
But it is still a bit like "whack a mole". They will probably end up on a facebook site now. Someone may 'distress' them to give them a more "unique" look. The whole thing gives me gas .......
