I went to my LCS today and he told me that he don't sell any Canadian coins because He said the market is soft so he don't stock any, because no buyers. I thought I would ask a Canadian their opinion on the market now. I watch the metal price and prices of the dollar.

A lot of us coin shops hold little regard for Canadian unless they are high end shops. Seems the same with world coins in general. The fancier the store the more they notice. So bad thing is it's harder to find the super rare dates, the good thing is that you can take every thing but keys really cheaply at shops like that. Like my dealers just keep them in junk boxes. I have gotten some nice silver Victorian coinage for just a small premium on .80 silver. This means a lot of times I pay less then spot.

If I were an American collector, I would be buying up as much Canadian coinage as I could right now. With the dollar the way it is, you're practically stealing it.

As far as the market goes, I only collect and do not sell but I've noticed that many online listings for Canadian coins are now in US$. I'm less inclined to buy online now than I was a year ago. I've seen a few Canadian dealers on here mention that business is booming due to the increase in U.S. customers buying Canadian coins.

The question being "is the market soft right now?" As a seller of Canadian coins, I can assure you that the market is not soft, its probably better than ever. Auction houses are packed, walking into a coin show is like walking through a Walmart on black Friday.
Competition on ebay is strong.

The market for Canadian Coins is certainly not soft in Canada. But since your in America, our Coins wouldn't have too many customers, just the same as up here, not many dealers have a good US stock.

I haven't figured out how to "Quote somebody" on here yet but I definitely agree with AGhoarder.
If I was in the US, I'd be scanning the canadian auction sites and buying up the good stuff since the exchange rates are in your favor right now.

It may be soft for an LCS in the US selling in US dollars because US buyers are flocking to sellers who price in Canadian dollars with the plunge in the value of the loonie. My wife says she'd had a huge uptick in sales to the US the last few months, a noticeable increase in sales to the EU and things are still steady for sales within Canada.

xwlcoins: want to learn to do something on here try the search menu...

For quotes just type (quote) "copy and paste the passage or phrase" (/quote)

but the quote and /quote have to be in box brackets NOT parentheses and it

Will turn into
Quote:
"copy and paste the passage or phrase"

Bertensgrad, any Victorian silver coins from Canada are not .800, they are sterling .925 so even more silver content.

xwlcoins, if you go to "reply to topic" rather than a quick reply there is a button for quotes. If you click it, it will put this on your post

[quote][quote]

whatever you want quoted, cut and paste it between those. no quotation marks needed

Thanks for the info, There are some silver Canadian I still need for my type set. From George VI back to Victoria. Maybe I need a check up North or a larger LCS with more interest. My bank just gives me modern change to save holding it. The right price, when the change machine kicks out all the nickel coins.

I really like Canadian coins and pretty much buy all the
Canadian coins that come into a local coin shop.

Not a lot but several rolls and almost a complete type set.

I think they are a very good deal.
