Quote: Does anyone go to the bottom of the main page and look at the "Active Users" you get to see who is on the site. If you look you will see that the 'Lurkers' out number the forum members 6 to 1 , that's a lot of people reading what we are doing. I'm confused, does it bother you that there are more lurkers here than members? If so why? Are they hurting anything? I guess I don't understand where you wanted this to go.

I'm sure the great majority of active users were lurkers for some time before a first posting. I certainly was.

No it doesn't really bother me I'm just amazed at the number of lurkers. They can't comment or do any thing but read. And yes I was one for a few weeks as well.

After receiving more knowledge about what info I should & shouldn't post in any kind of online forums, I had/have decided to cut back on my own personal posts. Trying my best to only read others posts & commenting on those if I so choose.
So I suppose that I've become more of lurker :( :/ than an active poster.

Ok, I logged on so you wouldn't see me lurking. If it does not bother you I doubt you would have brought it up the way you did. I think most of those you call Lurkers are simply following the advise my grandfather always gave us... You were born with only one mouth and two ears so always listen twice as much as you speak.

The system logs me off pretty regularly... I think that makes a lot of us look like lurkers... But I admit I lurked for quite a while before I became an active member... I had to know what I wanted to ask before I spoke up. I'm glad others are lurking and learning. It is a really great community and I hope more lurkers cross over to become active members.

Not sure of Mcshilling's intent of using the icon but..... Having been to two major coin shows where Mcshilling was a representative for CCF. I believe he is not trying to stop lurkers but, wondering why more people do not respond. Mcshilling, also went to the F.U.N show.

Some members may be too shy or feel intimidated to post. I am not "Keen" on the term "Lurker" I prefer to call these members lookers and learners As with most forums it is normally the 10% of members that post 90% of the posts, some people are simply more garrulous than others . Its a bit like a newspaper, everyone reads it but not everyone writes a letter to the editor

I am glad we have so many lurkers. That shows that there are many others interested in our hobby. Don't post personal info online and you won't run into any issues.

Quote: I am not "Keen" on the term "Lurker" I prefer to call these members lookers and learners For what it is worth, my experience with lurkers dates way back to my BBS days (more than thirty years ago) in reference to users who logged in to read posts or download files, but seldom (if ever) posted or uploaded anything themselves. The Wikipedia article is an interesting read... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lurker
