I bought this coin years ago and kind of forgot about it. The letters "ONE CENT" are missing. Is it likely it was struck that way or more likely they were deliberately removed?
This is my first post.

With the apparent wear on the obverse and reverse, I am thinking just wear. But lets see what others think.

I think it may just be wear. You can faintly see where the words "one cent" were

Agree with the others looks like wear, I have a Liberty nickel so worn that doesn't have the back part, only barely reads "cents" so yeah.

I'm thinking PMD. The shield and wreath around the area in question don't show the same amount of wear. I wonder if somebody ground the "one cent" off to make a love token, but never got around to doing it?

I also think the reverse center lettering has been manually removed.

PMD in my opinion, other wise the wreath would be wore the same as the letters.

Oh, and forgot....to CCF

Thanks everyone. I too believe more likely the letters were manually removed than caused by normal wear. Anyone seen anything similar? It seems to be have been done very carefully and why go to the trouble?

If they were removed manually as you think, maybe it was to carve initials for a small love token.
