I've been going through my father's coin collection. I have 23 1964 Kennedy half dollars. I also have a whole lot more from 1965-1969. I know the silver contect is only 40% but are these worth saving? Thanks, Peaches

Peaches2165, to CCF. With the 1964 did you check for the "Heavily Accented Hair"? You could save them to cash in when silver prices agree with your profit expectations.

The "accented hair" was only on some 1964 proofs. As for whether to keep the 40% silver (1965-1970), silver is low right now. I would wait until the price was better.

, hang on to them until silver price is better if you don't intend to keep them.

Thanks for the advice. I'll save them for a while and see if prices go up. I have lot of silver quarters (150) ranging from 1934-1964 and will save those too. Just a couple really old pennies 1880s.

Just to make sure you're aware, the silver quarters and the 1964 kennedy are 90% silver.

Hi,
I am very aware. I've been going through alot of coins. I also have a few silver dollars and a couple of Morgans too. This was my dad's collection and he saved for years. We have been finding money everywhere. Just finished going through a pile of dimes. I have some barber, mercury and bens.

FYI each 1964 Kennedy half contains about 0.36 oz of net pure silver, each 1965-70 Kennedy contains about 0.145 oz net pure silver. So at $14/oz of silver the bullion/melt values are $5.04 and $2.03, respectively, give or take, more or less. And as an earlier poster pointed out, there could be Accented Hairs (although those are proofs only), D/D mintmarks (1964-D), or Doubled Die varieties as well. Enjoy your Kennedy halves! And check out our Registry Sets of them (and those of others) if you like. Best Regards, George
