Inspired by other images earlier in this thread, I offer a couple selections. The first is India, Awadh, rupee where you can see the silver plate or silver wash wearing off the copper core. The second was described as a gold peso on ebay and what is shown is after a partial dip in acetone when the gold paint settled in the bottom of the glass.

Here is another from the collection. It's Central American Republic, Half Escudo 1848. Color has been greatly altered to better show how the gold wash has worn off the high spots, but still remains in the low spots.

Yes they both are but of course not the painted peso.
