While trying to research possible VAM Morgans I came across a "G" that was very open on the top compared to any other Morgan I had. Is this the same as a date number being damaged and have the look of being "moved". I will get a picture if needed but haven't yet in case this is common.

Tying to learn all I can and APPRECIATE the help here!

THANKS

Not sure what date you have, but it is pretty common on the 1878 series.

Yep.....78 and thanks. Odd not mentioned at all on the VAM site unless I missed it.
Rest in Peace

The 1878-P series is very well sorted, and a feature like that is not necessary to attribute the coin. If you are well versed in the series an open G may be helpful as a secondary diagnostic to more quickly narrow it down to the correct VAM.

Start with the reverse type, and then narrow it down from there.
