Hello

So I recently purchased a coin graded by a company called MMNS.
Michigan masters numismatic service , I had never heard anything about these guys ...
I knew it was a gamble but it payed off as the coin was very nice and in my opinion the grade was a bit on the conservative side ....

Is anyone familiar with this service ?
Or possibly know anything about them ?

Thanks

They're another basement slabber. Conder had posted on them, search and ye shall find the old thread.

Odd thing is my MMNS coin is a VF 3cs that they marked VG (obviously not familiar with the series).

Thank for the info ...

When you say basement slab I always think of SGS, a service that grades their own coins and all insanely overgraded...

I don't know much about MMNS but it does appear they try and give an accurate or honest grade ...
The barber I purchased was graded EF45 and I believe it would upgrade to a AU 50 -53 at a top company ....

Originally called Michigan Masters Numismatic service they were NOT just a basement slabber, they did accept outside submissions and attempted to operate as a legitimate service. At some point they moved to Florida and became simply Masters Numismatic Service but continued using their original stockpile of shells that still had the MMNS initials molded into it. these often had a gold oval sticker on them with the new MNS initials.

The company is no longer active.

MMNS did have one innovative slab idea. Back before the edgeview type slabs MMNS produced what they called their Holoview slabs. These had a beveled mirror built into the slab around the coin that allowed you to see the entire edge of the coin while looking straight on at the coin.

Thanks for posting guys :)

I will keep an eye out for more of their slabs , I couldn't be happier with their grading...

Another plus side is I believe most buyers dismiss them as a basement slab and bargains can be had if you watch what your doing :)

Is undergrading considered accurate and honest? Isn't it in your best interest to have a coin slabbed with the higher grade if in fact it meets that grade? Or were you suggesting the other TPGs typically overgrade?
