Some time earlier I learned that some times VAM's can be attributed by die poop and scratch lines, but from the beginning, it is the MAJOR principles of detail that lead us to the vams ID or a non attributed designation.Details,
I think Messy desk was close except Van 28 die crack is about center of the bar and your pic shows its above that, so in that fact it can't be a later die state either.....The main point of interest here and frustration in vaming is...........While some doubling may occur fundamentally clashings and letters are recorded.........and are of interest...I and R rareity... Leroy never gave an idenity to a VAM by its crack alone...So fundamentals are pre eminant here date placement ect...1883 is so far much better to explore than 1878 LOL
YET think it was VAM 85......a die crack variety that was a fortune....good luck, some times it takes a while to figure it out even if its a common VAM......vut the chase is worth it..Gene
Rest in Peace

It is not often I disagree with JB on attribution, but I am with Gene on this one... most everything looks VERY close, but there are several subtle differences that lead me to also believe this is not a VAM 28. I know I initially ruled this one out the couple times I went through the list, but I don't know exactly why. This time it is die markers, cracks, and die clash rotation.. I will follow up.
