Can you get any close-ups? I thought I recognized that crack pattern, but I guess not. I didn't have any luck, but it's not easy attributing coins by cracks, especially when there are so many cracked varieties!

I went through all the '83 P listings this morning and came up empty. There are a few very similar star to date crack patterns but nothing exact(real similar to the VAM10 sextupled stars). This one may be a later die stage of a listing so it may come down to micro pups such as date doubling which can be all but impossible for images.

I am with Dave. I went through every 1883-P as well (with the exception of VAM-22). One of the Weth VAM-1 die pairs was also close, but no cigar. If you post on VW I am sure "Weth" with chime in - he loves when people post 1883-Ps ;)
Close ups would go a long way though if you'd like to have it attributed here rather than by the expert himself over at VAMworld.

As far as a grade a 63 it is. Reverse is much nicer but the obverse has a bag full of chatter. Still love the luster and the die crack patterns.

Thanks for posting more photos. The date photo is the most crucial. I do see a little bit of doubling it seems.. and no dash under the 8. Looks like the coin has a lightly pitted Lady Liberty, and maybe eagle as well? Does your coin have a doubled ear? I will take another look before long once I get a chance. Boy, that lady is cracked up!

Not VAM-1F. Ears are different, wing/neck gap is different, crack pattern is different, and clash rotation is different. I don't see the chip in the nostril either. I started going through the list again the other day, but have not had time to finish up. Still came up short thus far though.

i agree with you twods I'm thinking it may just be a VAM 1 but I'm finding similar die pairing but none are exact.Attributing a coin just by die cracks really does not work but here is a list of the ones I see with a similar die crack on the obv by the date VAM-10 VAM-28 these are the only 2 I see with the exact same die crack by the date again attributing by die cracks does not always work but check out the die markers on these 2 vams and see if you come up with anything

I stopped and studied VAM 28 each time through the listings and discounted it because of the clash orientation at the neck.
