Took me longer that I thought! Believe me, the $5 is the toughest.

Very nice group! I sent my set off for grading, however, I know they will come back no where close to these!

Believe me, the $5 is the toughest. Coinfrog, you are 100%+ correct about the $5. Good show on completing the set.

PS - that odd-looking rectangle in the upper left obverse of the $5 is just residue on the holder from an old sticker.

Congrats!! If I may ask.. how long did it take you to complete the set? Also is this a set that could be done for $500.00 or less? Thanks

jm20 - It took about a year, but it was never a high priority, and so I always kept price in mind. I am still looking for the $5 in 66PQ but have not been able to find one. As to the cost of a set, you will probably have to pay close to $500 for the $5 alone in 65PQ, while the $1 would be in the $200+ area and the $10 around $350+, again in a major-service PQ holder. In my experience, the $5 is offered on ebay only a fraction as often as either of the others.

mox - As I've mentioned before, I never buy any note in less than 65PQ if I figure I'll likely end up owning it in that grade eventually. It's taken me a lifetime to learn this! I don't believe I've ever lost money on a 65PQ, but not so on lower-grade holders that looked like "bargains". Partly this is because of supply and demand, but it also reflects the fact that it is folly to cut out a banknote and re-submit it to either major service - it's a crapshoot what you'll get back, unlike with coins, where you can gauge quality through a slab and crack it if you like. Obviously this does not apply to holdered notes that are genunely scarce or rare, or raw notes if you feel you have the experience to evaluate them.

Thanks, Coinfrog ! Beautiful. I too have finally learned, Buy the best you can afford, not the most, and buy the coin, not the slab...but sometimes it has been an expensive, and painfull experience
