NE ABQ Shop owner fights alleged robbers
http://www.kob.com/article/stories/....Vq4O7rIrKCj

Quote:
A Northeast Albuquerque coin shop owner shoots at a group of alleged thieves trying to steal coins from his store.

The owner of Jim Coad Rare Coin Shop shot at a group of alleged robbers trying to steal from him, according to Albuquerque Police Department.

The owner himself ended up with some pretty gruesome injuries, he is currently being treated at UNM Hospital.

Dealer seriously injured and one of the suspects dead. Is it just me or are these type of violent confrontations become more commonplace? Wishing the dealer well.

I feel sorry for the dealer. The dead perp, not so much.

I have known Jim a long time and you couldn't meet I nicer, more personable guy.

I hope he makes a full recovery and that the perps that got away eventually end up in jail for a long, long time.

Coins and gold bars falling out of his pockets as he died. Pretty sobering.

Hopefully the owner will recover.

You are right that these incidents are happening more frequently. Quite a time we live in now. These kinds of things would thwart me from opening my own shop unfortunately (if my collection ever got to that point where I could live and retire off it). I wonder sometimes how coin shops in Chicago or NYC manage to stick around. By the way (sorry, going slightly off coin topic), is Chicago still anti-gun? The prospect of never being able to defend yourself in an armed robbery or home invasion just turns me off. And how could laws like this pass with such compelling counter-arguments?

The wounded thief had gold ingots falling out of his pockets at the hospital, and he is an 'alleged thief'?

What's the lowlife who tried to beat the owner's head in called, a 'disadvantaged person'?

When they realize that the risk is greater than the reward, but that requires common sense, which, frankly, is not common anymore.

Probably just you, or simply more are being reported publicly. Things like this have been going one for a long time but news reporting used to be much less. Twenty five years ago this MIGHT have been reported locally and that would be it. Fifteen years ago it would be local news, possibly in the trade papers and a couple reports on a chat board. Today the news is available everywhere and gets widely disbursed through social media.

I think it is just you, but you can read this book and come to your own conclusion.

I agree. We have more and faster access to information.
