I found this quarter back in 1996 and did not examine it again until recently. The "IN GOD WE TRUST" has some doubling and so does the mintmark. I was thinking Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration Doubling but am not sold on that since I have many DDD error coins and all of them have a fairly flat design as far as the doubled part of the design. There is no real separate design on any of the DDD ones only the appearance of a doubled impression, but the secondary impression on thas has no real mass to it? On this one the first impresssion is raised and has a radius to it when looking from the side under magnification? It looks like two separate images, like it was minted twice? The pictures do not show this unfortunately. What do you think? Thanks!

Vaslin: You meant Machine Doubling, right?

Curious about the term Shaddmin meant: DDD? Got me on that one. The mark on the mint mark can't be a RPM as those stopped being added by hand in 1990. So from what I see it looks like Machine Doubling.

:) I'm terrible of the difference between Machine Doubling and doubling due to Die Deterioration.

As mushy as the 'O' looked like in 'God', I was assuming it was more than normal Machine Doubling.

Thanks for the education as always Richard.

Thanks Vaslin! When I say " DDD" I meant " Die Deterioration Doubling" coop. Anyways I appreciate your input! This specimen is different than the other ones with Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration Doubling. It threw me for a loop? I have scads of 1990s era Lincoln pennies with " DDD". Thanks again! L.B

Actually, Die Deterioration does play a part in the doubling on the IN GOD WE TRUST.
