1940 S LWC, The mint mark on this coin looks odd to me. First the lower half of S is filled with no apparent damage. Second under magnification I noticed a little denticle sticking out and added an arrow to point it out.
Don't know about the denticle per se, the mint mark looks compressed or smashed down as do the 4 and 0 in the date. PMD in other words. Overall the cent has a lot of miles on it.
The lower loop of the S took a contact hit, PMD. The little spur in the upper loop is similar to RPM-002 but I do not think it can be definitively attributed given the damage to the mintmark.
Thanks for all the info guys. Odd coin indeed for me. I was on Wexlers site and see the possible RPM-OO2 inside the top loop. Just can't get any closer with the microscope. Die crack and chip is also interesting. I don't have the eye for that yet..
