1940 S LWC, The mint mark on this coin looks odd to me.
First the lower half of S is filled with no apparent damage.
Second under magnification I noticed a little denticle sticking out and added an arrow to point it out.

Opinions would be appreciated and thank you.

Don't know about the denticle per se, the mint mark looks compressed or smashed down as do the 4 and 0 in the date. PMD in other words. Overall the cent has a lot of miles on it.

The lower loop of the S took a contact hit, PMD. The little spur in the upper loop is similar to RPM-002 but I do not think it can be definitively attributed given the damage to the mintmark.

I think you may have a die chip in the lower section of the S with what looks like the start of a die crack coming from the mark as well.

Thanks for all the info guys. Odd coin indeed for me. I was on Wexlers site and see the possible
RPM-OO2 inside the top loop. Just can't get any closer with the microscope. Die crack and chip is also interesting. I don't have the eye for that yet..
