I would hold out for one that is not as badly damaged.

Too damaged. I'd ultimately regret tying up budget in it when something else more pleasing comes about.

This piece has around VF-30 detail and the reverse strike is above average. It will probably cost $2000 or more for a problem-free example with comparable detail so a damaged piece may be acceptable for many collectors who want this date or type.
A $50 offer would be a tad insulting I think. Perhaps $150-200 would be reasonable, with at least a chance the seller might accept.

Thou thinkest ye shall withhold thoust funds from such a deplorably damaged obverse. If the reverse had the damage instead of the obverse, thee shall consider a $50 investment. On thoust other hand, $50 is not much of a gamble, if the offer is accepted. Sir Jpbone of Oklahoma.

$20. The coin just has zero eye appeal.

Quote: A $50 offer would be a tad insulting I think. Perhaps $150-200 would be reasonable, with at least a chance the seller might accept. That was what I was thinking, 5-10% of value. But that is more than I am willing to spend on a corroded / bent coin. I would happily pay that if the face was not so destroyed, or if the damage was on the reverse.

I also would wait for a better example. This coin is and $400 is a joke for anywhere over $40
