Last time I saw this one it sold for about $2900. Recently a purple-ish one in ICCS MS63 went for $3800.

The seller says he has never seen another with rotated dies yet 6 of 14 1948 dollars currently listed on ebay have rotated dies. Not rare at all.
It is the same seller who did not sell the coin about a month ago for $4000. Something must have gone wrong with that transaction, maybe the potential buyer realized it was grossly overpriced. We'll see what it sells for this time in a low start auction, barring any shill bidding,or fools who believe his story about the rotated dies, we should have an indication of its real value.

Speaking of shill bidding, this auction would be raising signs of caution in my head. It might not mean anything but this eBayer's history, who's upped the bid hundreds of dollars at a time, is not very typical as it indicates an extraordinary number of auctions items bid on, only a star rating of 8 that indicates a very low volume of completed buys, and also more bid retractions than buys.

That bidder history definitely raises some flags.

Wow that an obvious case of shill bidding.

There is absolutely no evidence of shill bidding by that bidder.
Only 6% of their bids were on this sellers items, mostly on this one item.

Any shill bidding that I've ever later found out about was low feedback bidders who bid on dozens of items simultanously so as to have people assume exactly as above. Not saying they are, just that from my experience there are several things that fit the profile.

I don't think that looks like shill bidding at all. This bidder has only bid on this item it looks like, and this ebay seems to have had a number of sales (some for really good prices). I will raise my card on this if it stays under $3000.

Absolutely not. Lots of bidders do this to try and ward off other bidders. They think if the bid count is really high people will think they'll never get it for a good price because of the illusion of "so many people" wanting it. Common tactic. Instead of putting in a $1,000 proxy when the bidding is at $500 they'll put in as many bids as the current increment allows until they get to $1,000. That way it might add 40 bids to the bid count instead of 1.

Personally I don't think ebay should change the bid count for successive bids like this, only if the high bid changes when you bid.

DBM, I think $4000 is a little steep but not $2900 for an MS63. I don't know, I've tried for MS63 and MS64 on this coin a few times and always get out bid. MS64 prices are getting way out of reach, so I think I will have to settle for MS63. I will try for this one if it doesn't get stupid.

31 watchers on it.

I am looking through his auctions and he has another rarity up for sale which is way under market value right now. Why wouldn't he bid that one up too? Also, there are several NGC coins bidding at $2 - $5 in his items for sale. Sorry guys, I am pretty sure this is honest price discovery in my opinion. Or else, why wouldn't the shiller bid up other auctions as well?

I'm still sceptical. Yes the bidder has only bid on 6% of the buyers items but we can't see who the other sellers are in order to determine whether there's a inter-connection between those sellers or not or if one person has various accounts, perhaps to avoid the eye of the CRA by staying under the annual high sell limit. As more people become aware of shill bidding I'd imagine those that utilize the practise become more devious.

This one who bids on 282 auction items (totalling 875 bids) and wins at most 6, highly unusual coupled with the retractions, appears occasionally they win auctions by accident, without any intention of doing so. Otherwise it would seem their sole function is to push up the bid. It just doesn't seem logical to me someone would involve themselves in so many auctions and avoid buying, I don't get what would be the point.

The PCGS green label might grade a point or two above, it's a nice paddle downhill as I call these coins but it's not a ms 64, and 5000.00 is a stretch.
