Is this a proof coin? If so, did the cashier notice it was a rather bright and shiny, aside from obvious battle scars as a result of its stint amongst circulation coin?

Unfortunately it's not unheard of for rebellious children to spend the family coin collection.

It is a proof coin, and no the cashier did not notice. I received it while buying groceries from Safeway. Too bad it has scratches.

That's really cool, if the cashier didn't notice then probably it passed through the hands of many people who didn't notice either.

Something of a novelty item if you keep it.....where this one might have began its adventure in the outside world, if only coins could tell their story it'd probably be very interesting.

What would you say it would grade, if you sent it to a 3rd party service? PR45? That would be fun to see on an ICCS flip

They would have more detail and a buffed die with higher pressures I would think. No wonder it outlasts the regular strikes.
