201519799050

Seller has this up for $45 buy it now, relisted from an unsold $69.99 201502383813.

Seller sold the exact same coin (or at least the exact same photo) back in November 191739646856 for $26.00 and received positive feedback from an apparently unrelated buyer.

I believe this coin is a counterfeit - I solicit further opinions. The rim of the reverse is too sharp, and there are a few other indicators I look for that are present in this coin.

I am also suspicious of the two ASEs

Hard to say since the photos aren't that great, but I can say everything on the obverse appears to be a perfect match to a real 1898 Morgan. If something's off, I'm not seeing it.

One of the markers I look for is the bottoms of the letters on the reverse UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The bottoms should be perfectly flat. Many, many counterfeit Morgans use a die where these bottoms are not flat.

It is a bit hard to see in this photo because of the poor quality.

Here is another example

This is what they should look like:

Denticles should be well defined and separate from each other. On the subject coin - top photo (see above STATES) they are "run together".

I can not see anything that I can pin point to the coin being counterfeit. I agree that the seller may have a snake in him as the photos are the same as the coin previous sold and no refunds are offered.

I think the uneven letter bottoms indicate fake.

I've been shot down on that before.
