My Mark Twain silver dollars arrived today - one proof, one uncirculated. When I opened the box containing the uncirculated coin I was instantly surprised! The coin features a brilliant finish reminiscent of the uncirculated US commemorative silver dollars from the 1980s vs. the satiny/frosty finish that the Mint has been using since the mid-1990s. My images don't capture the full brilliance of the finish as they are scans vs. photos. I will try to get additional images posted soon. Anyone else get their uncirculated Twain SDs yet? Are they brilliant or satiny? Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems. All rights reserved.

Mine came in on Friday and I have not had a chance to post about them yet. My uncirculated is as yours is, commems - smooth and satiny. It appears yours might have a slight bit of milkiness in the reverse fields... mine exhibit that as well.
Initially I thought the design was slightly too busy, but I've changed my mind -- I think it works nicely.
Really looking forward to my $5 proof when it comes in off of back order.

Got mine on Saturday. I was stunned at how good the uncirculated looked. Especially the reverse. The detail is exceptional. Edit: Of course, it isn't perfect. I just broke out the loupe and it looks like it has a small strikethrough.

One of the few modern commemorative issues I've ordered. Haven't received mine but love the look of the Uncirculated.

Interesting. I suppose the question is whether or not this was intentional.

I compared the MT unc with the Girl Scout and US marshals uncirculated silver dollars. Looks like they went with a more satiny unc finish on the Twain. The earlier coins have a flat matte surface which was probably added after striking similar to the vapor blasted surface on the unc pucks? It's obvious when comparing the coins side-by-side. The matte coins had tons of defects including incomplete finishes with hot spots and rim issues. Perhaps that's why they went with the natural satiny finish instead, to minimize returns on defective coins?

I got my proof and uncirculated Mark Twain Commemorative Dollars are I'm very happy with the coins I received. The finish on my unc dollar is very similar to yours.

I must have been living under a rock ... did not realize these were available for purchase ... LOL. I'm mainly a collector of the classic silver commemorative series ... but for the prior 5-6 years have acquired the UNC version of the modern commemorative coins. Need to take an action item for David to purchase one of these ... cripes .... Too much work, too many hobbies, not enough time. David
